Band Parents

Pleasant Valley’s Band Parents are to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school band room.

Legion meets

The West End Memorial American Legion Post 927 will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Turkey dinner

McMichaels UMC is hosting a hot roast turkey dinner from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The meal includes mashed potatoes, vegetable, homemade desserts and beverages.

There is a cost, but children under 5 eat for free.

The church is located on Route 715 and White Church Road.

Coffee house

A coffee house is being held at EUMC at 6 p.m. Saturday. Coffee will be provided, for a fee, by Nibors. Desserts will also be available for purchase. The entertainment provided will be free. The proceeds from this event will go toward the REACH Missions trip in July.

Effort pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource Center hosted by Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Birding adventure

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a Spring Ahead Birding Program set for 9 a.m. Sunday.

There is a cost.

Fellowship breakfast

Effort UMC will again have a freewill donation Fellowship Breakfast from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Funds realized will support capital improvements for the church.

Riders meeting

The Legion Riders will meet at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Post 927 home in Gilbert. It is time for the final office nominations and voting.

Hoagie sale

McMichaels UMC is currently taking orders for hoagies. Orders are due by Sunday and will be ready to pick up at McMichaels UMC after 4 p.m. on March 21. For costs and to order, call Pastor Ed at 610-596-1030.

All Sports Club

The Pleasant Valley All Sports Club is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school library.

UMW meets

Effort UMC’s United Methodist Women will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. The program will be: Missions Outreach Auction basket (kitchen and ice cream sundae basket).

Attendees are asked to bring items to fill the basket.

Devotions will be provided by Michelle Wichman. She and Kathy Cleveland will serve as hostesses.

Korean Vets

The Korean War veterans meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post Home 927 in Gilbert.

Operation Touch of Home will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Garden Club

The Monroe County Garden Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. March 13 at the Kettle Creek Environmental Center, 8050 Running Valley Road in Stroudsburg. The program will be Invasive: Plants and Weeds, as presented by Sherry Acevedo.

The horticulture theme is Open, Horticulturist choice; the Design Theme will be: An Elegant Country Wedding.

The meeting will be followed by lunch, followed by program.

Everyone interested in gardening is welcome to attend. There is a small cost for nonmembers, which is applied to their membership. Luncheon is included.

Auxiliary meets

The Legion Auxiliary is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. March 13 at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Meeting slated

The West End Park & Open Space Commission is slated to meet at 6:30 p.m. March 13 at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.

February service

The West End Fire Company responded to 34 incidents for February. This brings the total for the year to 69 incident responses, the same number as last year at this time.

Over the past two months, fire company members have received training in CPR, first aid and hazardous materials operations training.

Fly fishing program

Monroe County Conservation District and Brodhead Trout Unlimited present an introduction to fly-fishing program.

The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 16 at the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.

Equipment, casting, strategy, fly-tying, basic trout stream macroinvertebrate entomology and local fishing will be covered and demonstrated. Preregistration is required by March 15.

Blood drive

Cornerstone Community Church on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. March 27.

Home help here

County Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting applications for its Home Preservation Program, which is designed to help homeowners affected by low income, age or disability to make necessary repairs to their homes.

Projects may include roof replacements, replacement of hot water heaters, pest control, tree trimming and removal, gutter replacements, sidewalk repairs, fence repairs and painting, porch and deck repairs, general yard and home cleanup, a new stove or a new refrigerator and many other home repairs that impact the health and safety of one’s home environment.

To qualify for home preservation, a single person must have an annual income of less than $38,600 and a family of two less than $44,100. Income qualifications exist for larger families as well. In addition, they must own their home, must have owned their home in Monroe County for at least the past two years, have up-to-date homeowner’s insurance, and be current with mortgage payments and taxes. Habitat’s Home Preservation Program offers a zero-interest loan payable for up to four years.
