Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting applications for its Home Preservation Program, which is designed to help homeowners affected by low income, age or disability make necessary repairs to their homes. Twenty projects are nearly completed, and the organization wants to complete an additional 10 projects by June 30.

The organization is again holding its She Nailed It competition.

Community supper

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville, will once again host a free community supper at 5 p.m. today.

PVHS honors

The Pleasant Valley High School Academic Awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. today.

VBS planning

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, continues its planning for Vacation Bible School with a meeting at 6 p.m. today. VBS will be held in the church from 9 a.m. to noon July 9-13.

Meeting tonight

The Chestnuthill Planning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. today.

PVMS book fair

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PTO book fair continues through the rest of the school week.

Lions meet

The Western Pocono Lions Club will gather at Cherry’s in Kresgeville Thursday. The board will meet at 6 p.m. and the members can begin to order off the menu at 6:30 p.m. It is planned to begin the dinner meeting at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Hope Christman, director of the PVEN.

The club’s board of directors voted at the April meeting to discontinue the Leo Club at Pleasant Valley High School, due to the lack of members — down to six this school year — and also the reported lack of faculty advisers. A letter has been sent to the superintendent of the school district to that effect.

Hunger Coalition

Pocono Mountain Hunger Coalition will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the NCC-Monroe County campus at Room 242 of Keystone Hall. For more information, contact jennifer@unitedwaymonroe.org.

Eldred Planners

The next Eldred Township Planning Commission meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the municipal building in Kunkletown.

Seniors menu

Friday’s hot meal luncheon for the Chestnuthill Seniors group is meatloaf. Next Wednesday’s is chicken scampi.

Those wanting to order lunch must call the site manager at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. the day before.

The Chestnuthill group can look forward to an interesting program on Preventing Fraud and Scams on May 30.

Primetimers meet

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is holding its Primetimers meeting at noon this Friday. Seniors 55 years and older are invited. Fellowship and a delicious luncheon are promised.

Bingo night

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host bingo night at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. Doors open at 5:30.

There will be specials, pull tabs and door prizes.

Parade participants

Operation Touch of Home members will be marching in the Scranton Armed Forces Parade in Scranton on Saturday. The group will gather at the Pocono Racetrack Ticket Office parking lot at 6 a.m. Saturday. Those interested should let the group know in advance.

Bike run

A Valor bike run and barbecue will be held at American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. Registration begins at 9 a.m., kickstands are up at 10:30. There is a cost.

There will be vendors, tricky trays, raffles, and disc jockey. The barbecue starts at noon.

Child Safety Fair

GFWC Western Pocono Women’s Club, a service organization in the West End, is co-sponsoring its annual free Child Safety Fair in coordination with the West End Park and Open Space Commission.

This event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville. The Pennsylvania State Police can fingerprint your child. The West End Ambulance and West End Fire Company will be present to tour their vehicles and trucks.

A Fire Safety House or simulated Smoke House from Tobyhanna Army Depot will be available to demonstrate safe ways to escape a house fire.

West End Ambulance will do a free blood pressure check. A dietitian will be available. The Girl Scouts will be selling food items at this event.

Free literature about car seats, school bus safety and state events and information etc. will be available inside the Chestnuthill Township Park Building during the Child Safety Fair. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation will provide car seat safety information and much more.

Quiet Valley

Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will host its 30th annual Farm Animal Frolic Saturday, Sunday and May 26 and 27.

Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays, from noon to 4 p.m.

There will be a sheep-shearing demonstration on Saturday and schoolhouse presentations on both Sundays.

In addition, there will be fish pond and corn activities, hay jump and wagon rides, as well as storytelling and various items for sale.

UMW flea markets

Effort UMC’s United Methodist Women will be hosting its annual flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. A bake sale and lunch will be available.

Outdoor table spaces could still be available. Those interested in a space must bring their own table.

St. Peter’s UMC on Route 115 in Saylorsburg, next to Dollar General, is holding a flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with a rain date of May 26.

In addition to tables featuring various items, the church kitchen will be offering home-baked treats, a hot lunch and beverages.

Anyone wishing to set up a table on the grassy area must call Skip at 570-992-6930 for costs and to verify space availability.

Volunteers needed

The Garden of Giving needs many hands on deck Saturday and Sunday for prepping and the big planting.
