Plant sale

There will be a plant sale after all weekend Masses at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert on Saturday and Sunday, including vegetable plants, flowers and more. It benefits the church’s youth ministry.

LAMA Pocono

The Pocono Chapter of LAMA will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday at American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert for the group’s monthly meeting.

Community meal

Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church in Hamilton Square is hosting a community meal at 6 p.m. Sunday that is open to all. Veterans are welcome. Those planning to attend or needing more information are asked to call 570-992-4085.

Pentecost

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, has asked its members of diverse backgrounds who speak another language to read one of the prayers of the faithful in that special language at the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Pentecost Masses on Sunday.

The church would also like to include anyone who would like to wear a native dress in the procession.

Those signing up in the atrium are asked to tell which country and which Mass they will be attending.

Confirmation

Effort UMC has scheduled Confirmation for the 11 a.m. service Sunday.

Salem-St. Paul’s in Kresgeville, also has Confirmation on its schedule for Sunday. That will take place at the 10:30 a.m. service, followed by a reception for the Confirmands.

The 8:15 service will focus on remembering one’s baptism, and at 9 a.m. the Confirmation class will meet.

Both services will include Holy Communion.

Veterans tribute

The Tribute to Veterans concert will kick off the free summer concert series at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville on Sunday.

Chris Eckert and Leigh Pollari will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees are reminded to bring lawn chair, blanket and bug spray.

There will be free refreshments for all veterans and free ice cream for all attending the concerts.

It’s the community’s chance to show its thanks to those who served.

Composting class

The West End Park & Open Space Commission along with the Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority (the Waste Authority) will be holding a composting class on Monday.

Class will start at 7 p.m. and last approximately one hour. The class is free and compost bins will be available to purchase at cost. One lucky person will receive a free backyard composter.

Class will be held at the Chestnuthill Park Building, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville, and a certified Master Gardener will be teaching the class.

Polk Township

The board of supervisors for Polk Township will meet at 7 p.m. Monday.

Officers announced

The Western Pocono Women’s Club has posted its officers for the 2018-2019 program year. They are: president, Pam Borger; first Vice President, Joan Bumbulsky; second vice president, Stacy Meckes; treasurer, Mary Minnucci; secretary, Ruthann Stiehler.

Pat Mackes will mentor and do the newsletter.

The club will next meet at 6 p.m. Monday for its May banquet at Boulder View Tavern in Lake Harmony with reservations having been completed.

Chorus concerts

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate fourth-grade spring chorus concert will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday in the PVI cafeteria.

The fifth-grade concert follows the next evening, also at 7 p.m., and the sixth-grade chorus concert will be presented at 7 p.m. May 24.

Knit & Crochet

The Knit & Crochet group at Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Republicans meet

The West End Republican Club meets regularly on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Lakeside Restaurant at 5154 S. Hamilton Blvd. in Saylorsburg. Republican-minded citizens are encouraged to join in to socialize, listen, discuss and learn.

This month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Those wishing to eat before the meeting should arrive by 6 p.m.

Awaken

Girlfriends Conference is coming to the Pleasant Valley High School in Brodheadsville May 25 and 26. The Friday event begins at 7 p.m., the Saturday time is 10 a.m.

Kelly Carver is the host. Jeremy Rosado, a participant in season 11 of “American Idol,” will be the worship leader.

Kirsten Wilkerson and Susanne Bruno will be communicators and Sioni Rodriguez will be a special guest.

There is a special rate for Friday and Saturday attendance and also for students, seniors and single moms.

Special service

Effort UMC is planning special services Memorial Day weekend and invites its family to submit names and photographs in memory of those from your family who were members of the nation’s security forces — Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard and Navy — who have gone on before current members. Forms can be found on the welcome center.

All submissions should be made to the church office by May 23. Those who have previously submitted information or photos are reminded that the church still has them on file and will include them in the presentation.
