WEHA meeting
The West End Home Association for Post 927 in Gilbert will meet at 7:30 p.m. today.
Pick up pie crusts
For those who ordered homemade pie crusts from Zion Lutheran’s Willing Workers, pickup dates are from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday and Sunday after church.
Mission meal
The West End Mission will serve a meal from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert.
Pocono Old Tyme
The monthly meeting of the Old Tyme Tractor Club is on the calendar for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert in the new museum building.
Knights meet
The Knights of Columbus Council 7141 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in McCawley Hall at Our Lady Queen of Peace. All Knights are welcome to attend these meetings. School board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Administrative Center in Brodheadsville.
WELL board
The West End Little League board of directors will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The meeting is for board members only. Next Thursday is the general meeting, which is open to all.
Veterans’ celebration
A Veterans Day celebration will take place at Pleasant Valley School District on Friday.
The celebration at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School parade is open to all veterans according the calendar listing for Post 927.
Participants must be signed in at the PVE main office no later than 8:30 a.m. The parade will wind through the school hallways lined with students.

Lunch order
Those attending the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville can choose to order fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli for Friday or baked ziti for next Wednesday. They must just call the site manager at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. the day before.
Breakfast served
McMichaels UMC will again host a by-donation-only breakfast on Saturday morning.
Orphan benefit
The Orphan Outreach Ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert is holding its tricky tray from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The doors open at 9 a.m. and the drawing is at 12:30 p.m.
One does not have to be present to win.
There is an admission charge and also a cost for additional tickets, multiple tiers and specialty tickets.
Habitat sale
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is holding a warehouse sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at The Mountain Center in Tobyhanna.
Offered will be such items as garden supplies, light bulbs, plumbing and electrical supplies, tile, carpeting, shutters, paint and more.

Shawl ministry
Our Lady Queen of Peace Prayer Shawl ministry will meet from 10 a.m. to noon in the teen room this Saturday. Members pray as they create shawls, which are then given to grieving families.
Effort pantry
Effort UMC’s Supplemental Food Resource Center will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon for regular distribution. A special Thanksgiving distribution will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 17.
On Nov. 24 there will be a light pantry distribution — bread and produce only. Registrations for a Thanksgiving distribution must be made by this Saturday.
The pantry is seeking donations for baskets, including the typical needs for a Thanksgiving feast. They should be brought to the pantry by Saturday.

Protect the Tap
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, the Monroe and Northampton County Conservation districts will host the first-ever Protect the Tap fundraising event at the Blue Ridge Winery in Saylorsburg in cooperation with local watershed organizations.

Fellowship breakfast
Effort UMC will host a fellowship breakfast from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Bring family, friends and maybe even a veteran or two, and a hearty appetite for some fellowship and breakfast.
Attendees are reminded that this is a freewill donation that supports the capital improvements of the church.
Thanksgiving drive
St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, continues its Thanksgiving drive for the West End Food Pantry this Sunday. Donations of Stove Top Stuffing are being sought for the pantry’s distribution of Thanksgiving baskets.
Those donations should be brought to the church or the pantry itself.
In addition, the church’s Laymen’s Fellowship is taking orders for the group’s homemade filling and chicken gravy sale.
Orders may be placed with a Laymen’s member or mailed to the church at 102 Church Road, Kunkletown, PA 18058.
Riders meet
The Riders, which meet at the American Legion Hall in Gilbert, will gather for a monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Veterans honored
Eldred Township will be honoring its veterans and celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Eldred Township Veterans Memorial at 11 a.m. Sunday, rain or shine. The memorial is on the grounds of the Eldred Township Municipal Building in Kunkletown.
The celebration includes special speakers and music, possibly including local legislators as well as a retired military person.
A small reception will follow with refreshments and memorabilia on display inside the township building.
Also the committee will be observing the 20th anniversary of the monument and those who were instrumental in bringing to life the idea of such a memorial. Twenty-eight members began the monument; three remain.
A new committee has been formed to take the work into the next 20 years.
Also meeting at 11 a.m. for a veterans ceremony are the men and women, families and friends of Post 927 in Gilbert at the Legion Post Home.
Guest speakers are expected and a light lunch will be provided.

Senior prom
The Monroe County Seniors 20th Senior Prom has been announced for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Pocono YMCA in Stroudsburg.
This year’s theme is Casablanca. Guests are invited to watch the movie and dress to impress.
There will be a DJ, dance instructor, door prizes and light refreshments.

PVEN Thanksgiving
A Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network Thanksgiving service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Salem UCC in Gilbert. An offering will be collected for the PVEN food pantry, and food donations will also be accepted for the pantry.

Zion Lutheran Church’s knitting and crocheting needle users will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Newcomers are welcome.
Korean War vets
A meeting of Korean War veterans will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Operation Touch of Home will meet at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post Home 927 Tuesday. It is a regular meting.
Depression seminar
Cornerstone Community Church is hosting a free Depression and the Desire to Die seminar from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Pastor Fred Jacoby, Cornerstone’s Pastor of Counseling and director of Foundations Christian Counseling will help participants understand depression and suicide. Registration is requested, not required.

Garden Club
The Monroe County Garden Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at the Eastern Monroe Public Library, Route 611/North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg. The meeting will begin at 11:30, followed by lunch, followed by the program.
Everyone interested in gardening is welcome to attend. There is a fee for nonmembers, applied to membership. Luncheon is included in the fee.

The Western Pocono Lioness Club board meeting will be held at noon next Wednesday at Cherry’s in Kresgeville.

Next Wednesday the Women’s Auxiliary will meet for its monthly gathering at 6 p.m. at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.
Chili cook-off
The West End Home Association is looking for a new house chili recipe. A Great Chili Cook-off will take place at the Post Home in Gilbert on Nov. 18.
All prepared entries must be at the Post Home by noon. There is a fee for the tasting event from 1 to 5 p.m. and a cash prize will be given the winner.
