Legion Riders
The American Legion Riders have its monthly meeting on at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion Post 927, Route 209 and Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert.
The group’s members contribute to veterans, the community and enjoy riding.

New member night
The Western Pocono Women’s Club is hosting its annual covered dish dinner/new member night at 6 p.m. Monday at Effort UMC.
Members of the Pocono Mount Women’s Club, the Northeast District Director and GFWC PA President have been invited. Entertainment will be a fashion show by Peebles. Eight members will serve as models.
Hostesses for the evening are Darlene Beers, Paulette Sebring and Marylouise Degler.
The club is collecting diapers in October for Angel’s Closet for ages newborn and 1 year.
On Saturday, club members will have a work session to clean up the club’s garden project in the triangle of Route 115 heading to Saylorsburg and Route 209.
PV Diversity group
The Pleasant Valley School District’s Diversity Taskforce will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the district office in Brodheadsville.
Shawl ministry
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Anyone who knits or crochets is welcome to join the ladies as they ply their needles of caring.
A similar ministry is at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert. That group meets from 10 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of the month to create prayer shawls that are giving to grieving families.
PVSD PTOs meet
The Pleasant Valley School District’s Elementary School PTO will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The Pleasant Valley Middle School PTO will meet at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 17.
Eldred Historical
The Eldred Township Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m Tuesday at the Frantz Schoolhouse on Church Road, opposite Keystone Lane.
As there is no heat in the building, participants are reminded to dress accordingly.
PTSD Support
This group, for Vets UnStoppable Peer-To-Peer PTSD Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Legion Post Home 927 in Gilbert. Non-Post member veterans are welcome. It is sponsored by VALOR Clinic Foundation.

Chestnuthill Township
The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the township municipal building on Route 715.
Operation Warm Coat
The West End Rotary Club sponsors the Operation Warm Coat program and is currently taking registrations for new children’s coats. Anyone who has a child or children in need of a new winter coat and they are in preschool to 12th grade in the Pleasant Valley District can call Rotarian Ed Gallagher at 610-657-6196 to register.
Registrations for the coats will be taken through this Saturday only. Get your information in as soon as possible as this is a first-come first-served basis.
Coats will be available for pick up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 at the West End Fire House in Brodheadsville.
The West End Rotary meets weekly at 7:30 a.m. on Thursdays at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.
Community lunch
A community lunch is on the calendar at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church for 12:30 p.m. Oct. 17.
Two blood drives
West Enders and friends will have two opportunities to give blood at an American Red Cross blood drive in the next 10 days.
The first will be held at Cornerstone Community Church on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville on Oct. 17. Donation hours are from 1 to 6 p.m.
The second is the drive being held at Effort UMC from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20. It is in honor of Helen Corell. Go online now and sign up for an appointment: https://www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).
In addition, donate the gift of life at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville via the Miller-Keystone drives, which take place on the first Wednesday of the month beginning at 7 a.m. or on the third Wednesday of the month when the giving begins at noon.
Triple sale
Middlecreek Christian Church, located at 343 Dorshimer Road, Kresgeville, will be holding its annual rummage, bake and soup sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.
A $3 bag sale will be held on Saturday between noon and 2 p.m. Anyone needing more information can call 570-629-4066.
Community Fun Day
Effort UMC is hosting its Fourth Annual Community Fall Family Fun Day from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 20.
There will be games, food, costume parade, trunk or treating with representatives from various areas of our community.
It is free.

WaterWaze Program
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a WaterWaze program set for Oct. 20.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the center be hosting a free family-friendly event full of educational, hands-on activities for kids of all ages.
Folks can explore Kettle Creek and learn about aquatic critters, the water cycle, and good stewardship of the most precious resource.
Lunch will be provided. This program is free for all ages.

Bingo returns
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host bingo night on Oct. 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. Doors open at 5:30.
There will be specials, pull tabs and door prizes.
