Sub vets meet
The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meet regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines. They are a local chapter of the national organization U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc.
Submarine veterans from all eras are encouraged to join. This month’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 18.

StoryBook Theatre
Western Pocono Community Library’s StoryBook Theatre will hold auditions for the upcoming production of “Treasure Island” on Oct. 19 and Oct. 26 beginning at 6 p.m. Auditions will be by appointment only.
StoryBook Theatre is open to all students in grades 7 through 12 in all school districts.

Jewelry fundraiser
Eldred Township Community Center fundraiser with Premier Jewelry will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19.
Refreshments will be served.
World Lions Day
The Western Pocono Lions Club will continue a long-standing club tradition when members and friends take clients from area nursing homes for a ride through the Poconos to view the leaves and other sights on Oct. 21.
The project was begun by Lion Past District Gov. Chris Sweeney and has been featured in the Lions International publication.
Community Fun Day
Effort UMC is hosting its Third Annual Community Fall Family Fun Day for Oct. 21. It will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Pavilion and is a time for the family to celebrate the fall season. Members are invited to help out this day by decorating their cars/trunks, assist with one of the many activities or help support the youth group by donating a bag or two of candy.
Tricky Tray
Operation: Touch of Home will hold a Trick or Treat tricky tray at the Chestnuthill Township Building in Brodheadsville on Oct. 22.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Calling starts at 12:30 p.m.
Refreshments, Red Friday shirts, Touch of Home hats and other items will be available for purchase.
Winners must be present.

Halloween activities
Eldred Township’s annual Halloween Parade will be held on Oct. 22. Check-in is from 11 a.m. to noon. Judging begins at 12:15 p.m.
The parade begins at 1 p.m.
Registration deadline for all categories is this Sunday.

Trunk-or-Treat will be held at Eldred Township Community Center from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28. Bring a bag or bucket to collect goodies and see how each car has been festively decorated. The center’s address is 516 Kunkletown Road, Kunkletown.
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold its trunk or treat event for its families from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the parking lot.
Trick or treat in Eldred is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
The annual Halloween party at St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown will be held 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 29. Kids are encouraged to come in costume. Kids and teachers will play a game, have snacks, paint pumpkins, hear a story, and parade through the church hallway.

In Chestnuthill Township it is Trick or Treat and Trunk or Treat at the Chestnuthill Township Park, Brodheadsville, from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
Businesses, groups and families are welcome to participate and join the fun. They can decorate a park building window, gazebo or one’s own car and hand out treats to the kids in a safe environment.
There will be a costume contest for kids 12 and under, including scariest, funniest, cutest and most original.

Park fundraiser
The Western Pocono Memorial Park Committee is hosting a Coach, Vera Bradley & Longaberger Bingo on Nov. 5, at the West End Fire Company on Route 715 in Brodheadsville. Doors open at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m.
Refreshments such as turkey barbecue, hot dogs, pulled pork, pierogies, homemade soup, baked goods and drinks will be available.

The park is located on Molasses Valley Road and has two softball fields, all-purpose field, basketball court, playground and picnic pavilion. The next phase of improvements includes upgrading the playground and continued regular maintenance of the grounds, building and equipment.
