Bicycles needed
No Kids Without Wheels, a ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, has been in operation for two and a half years, and 513 bicycles, scooters, skateboards, walkers and wheelchairs have been given to people in need in the West End. There is still a need for bicycles.

Community dinner
Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will host its next free community dinner from 5 to 6:30 tonight. Everyone is welcome.
Eldred Supervisors
The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors meetings are on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 490 Kunkletown Road.

The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meet regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines.

PVEN is holding toy distribution sign-ups continuing at 10 a.m. Thursday, and next week at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

‘Aladdin’ auditions
The Western Pocono Community Library is scheduling audition appointments for its Storybook Theater’s “Aladdin.” Students in grade 7 to 12 are welcome.

Library story time
The theme for this week’s story time at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville is Harvest Time. Story time continues at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and at 1 p.m. Friday for individuals with special needs.
Come Monday the theme changes to Whoooo’s There? It will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday; at 1 p.m. Wednesday; and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and at 1 p.m. Friday for individuals with special needs.
League meeting
The West End Little League will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.
This is WELL’s general meeting. It is open to all.
Ordering deadline
Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center has scheduled its truckload wild bird seed sale for Oct. 26.

Chestnuthill Seniors
The activity for this Friday’s meeting of the Chestnuthill Seniors at Zion Lutheran is Tai-chi with Dolores. Next Wednesday the activity is arts and crafts.
The light menu for Friday is Caesar salad, three-bean salad, Jello with fruit/yogurt and whole-wheat crackers.

Middlecreek sale
Middlecreek Christian Church, 343 Dorshimer Road, Kresgeville, will is holding its fall rummage and bake & soup sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Friday and Saturday. A bag sale will be held between noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Project Owlnet
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center’s Project Owlnet Saw-whet Owl Banding Program with Pocono Avian Research Center will host the fifth season of Project Owlnet. Kettle Creek will be open to the public from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, as well as Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. (Donations are welcome).
Participants will learn more about the Northern Saw-whet Owl, Project Owlnet, and have a unique opportunity to see one of the most secretive birds in the eastern U.S.
Preregistration is suggested.

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is holding its monthly cleanup day Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Photo composition
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a Basic Photo Composition Workshop for 10 a.m. Saturday.
Whether taking photos on a phone or a DSLR camera, attendees will learn how to use basic compositional concepts such as the rule of thirds, perspective, leading lines, depth and framing, to create strong, compelling images. There is a cost, though center members are welcome for free.

Blood drives
Effort UMC is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Whole blood will be received.
Next Wednesday, Cornerstone Community Church in Kresgeville, is hosting one from 1 to 6 p.m. Whole blood and Power Red will be received.

Family fun day
Effort UMC will hold its fall family fun day on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. It includes not only the before-mentioned blood drive starting early on, but also trunk or treat and other fun activities of all ages, including pony rides, costume parade, pumpkin patch and face painting.
Pet parade
The West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting the annual pet (costume) parade at noon, Saturday, at the Ross Township Park, 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.
Prizes will be given for the Scariest, Cutest, Most Original and Pet & Owner Look-a-Like, for which participants should dress up one’s favorite pet and themselves to have some fun.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting its Sunday supper from 3 to 4 p.m. this Sunday.
Fashion show
The Western Pocono Women’s Club is meeting Monday and having the group’s annual covered dish/new member night. It will be at Effort United Methodist Church beginning with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a fashion show courtesy of the local Peebles Store.
The show models will be Ruthann Shiehler, Linda Bryfogle, Joan Bumbulsky, Carol Rowan, Eileen Decker and Bonnie Peters.
Reservations due
Monday is the last day for reservations to be made in person at Post 927 in Gilbert for the children’s Halloween party. No phone reservations. It is limited to 75 children ages 0 to 12.
The party is being held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27, and is being sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 927.
It is free to all community children who have reservations. A light lunch will be available for the children only.
Knit & Crochet
Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet group will be meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday to continue their good work. Newcomers are always welcome. Experienced folks will teach newcomers who do not know how to knit or crochet. Supplies are not needed. They will be available.
Trick or treat
Pleasant Valley School District has its community trick-or-treat night on the calendar from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the high school.
Beef dinner
St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, has announced that its roast beef dinner will feature both family style and takeout meals on Saturday, Oct. 26.
