Blood drives
West Enders and friends will have several opportunities to give blood at an American Red Cross blood drive in the next few days.
The first one is being held at Cornerstone Community Church on Polk Township Road in Kresgeville today. Donation hours are from 1 to 6 p.m.
The second is the drive being held at Effort UMC from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It is in honor of Helen Corell. Go online and sign up for an appointment: https://www.redcrossblood.org or call 800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).
Donate the gift of life at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville via the Miller-Keystone drives which take place on the first Wednesday of the month beginning at 7 a.m. or on the third Wednesday of the month, beginning at noon.
Community dinner
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, offers a free community dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. today.
Planning Commission
The Chestnuthill Township Planning Commission meets at 7 tonight in the Chestnuthill Township municipal building.
Seniors menu
Chestnuthill Seniors meeting at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, as part of Monroe County Seniors, can order baked fish Thermidor for lunch for Friday and turkey potpie for Oct. 24.
The order must be placed by 11 a.m. the day before with the site manager at 570-242-6770.
Zion Seniors
This group of seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday. Attendees are reminded to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.
CJERP meeting
The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk Regional Comprehensive group has a meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township municipal building.
WELL meets
The West End Little League is meeting for an open session at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.
Harvest dinner
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding an annual harvest dinner Friday at 6 p.m. There is a minimal cost.
The church will provide soup, sandwiches, water and entertainment. Participants are asked to bring the rest.
Bingo night
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a bingo night at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
There will be door pries, specials, pull tabs and refreshments available.
Banding continues
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center’s Project Saw-whet Owl Banding Program with Pocono Avian Research Center along will host the fourth season of Project Owlnet.
The station will be open to the public from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday as well as Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. Donations are welcome at the event.
Preregistration is suggested.

Triple sale
Middlecreek Christian Church, located at 343 Dorshimer Road, Kresgeville, will be holding its annual rummage, bake and soup sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
A $3 bag sale will be held on Saturday between noon and 2 p.m. Anyone needing more information can call 570-629-4066.
Bingo time
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a bingo night on Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
There will be specials, pull tabs and door prizes.

The Garden of Giving in McMichaels Hillside Terrace has scheduled its garlic planting for Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until done.
Volunteers are needed.

Community Fun Day
Effort UMC is hosting its Fourth Annual Community Fall Family Fun Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

WaterWaze Program
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a WaterWaze program set for Saturday.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the center be hosting a free family-friendly event full of educational, hands-on activities for kids of all ages.
Folks can explore Kettle Creek and learn about aquatic critters, the water cycle, and good stewardship of the most precious resource.
Lunch will be provided. This program is free for all ages.

The Polk Township board of supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the municipal building in Kresgeville.

The West End Republican Club is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakeside Restaurant in Saylorsburg.
Those wishing to have dinner there before the meeting should arrive at 6 p.m.
Bird seed sale
The Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is gearing up for its fall bird seed sale in a variety of blends and sizes. Also available will be black oil sunflower seed, thistle, suet and several other specialty mixes.
Also offered in the gift shop will be a wide variety of high quality bird feeders, including some of which are squirrel proof. All proceeds from the sale of bird seed and feeders go to support environmental education programs.
Ordering deadline is Oct. 25. The sale is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3. One may obtain a complete order form by calling the center at 570-629-3061 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and most Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. One may also download the order form from the website: www.mcconservation.org. Prices are reduced for this truckload sale, but one should not forget bird seed is sold in the gift shop along with a wide variety of feeders and field guides year-round.
Church camp-out
On Oct. 26, the Royal Rangers of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church in Brodheadsville will be having a father and son campout at the church beginning at 5 p.m. There is a cost. The campout will go until 10 a.m. Oct. 27.
Ross event
Build a scarecrow then parade around the Ross Township Park, Saylorsburg, on Oct. 27 as the West End Park & Open Space Commission hosts the annual Pet Costume Parade at noon.
This year scarecrows are invited to join the fun. Build a scarecrow from 10 a.m. to noon then join the pet parade. The straw and frame will be supplied. Participants should bring clothes, accessories and imagination.
There will be prizes for both the pets and scarecrows, including for: Most Original, Funniest, Traditional Scarecrow, Owner Look-a-Like and more.
After the parade, scarecrows can be taken home or displayed in the park.

Trunk-or-treat
Eldred Community Center in Kunkletown will host a trunk-or-treat event from 2 to 3:30 on Oct. 27.
Come with your family or group, decorate your trunk and have some fun. Donations of candy are always needed as well.
Beading workshop
On Saturday Nov. 3, from 2: to 3:30 p.m. the Eldred Township Community Center will host a beading workshop with Jill Elizabeth, the famous Liztech jewelry designer.
The workshop includes all materials and one can make as many bracelets as one likes. There is a cost.

Bog walks
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers guided weekly Tannersville Bog walks Wednesdays through Nov. 7. These 2½ hour walks begin at 1 p.m. and will be guided by an Environmental Educator from the center who will teach attendees about the bog, a unique boreal bog for this area, owned by the Nature Conservancy. The bog is filled with bird songs and interesting insect-eating plants.
Participants should meet at the bog parking lot by 1 p.m.
