All Saints Day

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will offer Mass at 5 p.m. Oct. 31 and at 12:10 and 7 p.m. Nov. 1. There will be no 8 a.m. Mass either day.

Halloween event

Trick or treat and trunk or treat will be held at the Chestnuthill Township Park, 221 Route 715 Brodheadsville from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

Businesses, groups and families are welcome to participate and join the fun.

They can decorate a park building window, gazebo or their own car and hand out treats to the kids in a safe environment.

There will be a costume contest for children 12 and under, including Scariest, Funniest, Cutest and Most Original.

Volunteer opportunity

Retired Senior Volunteer Program has a volunteer opportunity at a West End health care facility. Volunteers are needed to assist residents in wheelchairs with mobility projects. Such assistance can mean that a resident can now have the ability to go to restaurants or shopping and not be confined to the nursing home.

The facility provides all transit. Volunteers are needed to push wheelchairs. Travel is done on groups.

Beading workshop

Eldred Township Community center will be the site for a beading workshop with Jill Elizabeth, the famous Liztech jewelry designer from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

There is a cost and preregistration is required.

Pork and sauerkraut

Effort UMC will hold its annual all-you-can-eat pork and sauerkraut dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

Veterans Day event

A Veterans Day parade will be held in Stroudsburg on Nov. 4. Anyone who will be participating from the West End can meet at 9 a.m. at American Legion, Post 927 in Gilbert.

Veterans honored

Eldred Township will be honoring its veterans and celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Eldred Township Veterans Memorial at 11 a.m. Nov. 11. The memorial is on the grounds of the Eldred Township Municipal Building in Kunkletown.

The celebration includes special speakers and music, possibly including local legislators as well as a retired military person.

A small reception will follow with refreshments and memorabilia on display inside the township building.

Also the committee will be observing the 20th anniversary of the monument and those who were instrumental in bringing to life the idea of such a memorial. Twenty-eight members began the monument; three remain.

A new committee has been formed to take the work into the next 20 years.

The event will be held rain or shine.

Senior Prom

The Monroe County Seniors 20th Senior Prom has been announced for 1-4 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Pocono YMCA in Stroudsburg.

This year’s theme is “Casablanca.” Guests are invited to watch the movie and dress to impress.

There will be a DJ, dance instructor, door prizes and light refreshments.

PVEN Thanksgiving

A Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network Thanksgiving service will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at Salem UCC in Gilbert.

An offering will be collected for the PVEN food pantry and food donations will also be accepted for the pantry.

Choir practice for the combined choir will be from 2 to 3 p.m.

Depression seminar

Cornerstone Community Church is hosting a free Depression and the Desire to Die seminar from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 13.

Pastor Fred Jacoby, Cornerstone’s Pastor of Counseling and director of Foundations Christian Counseling, will help participants understand depression and suicide. Registration is requested, not required.

The church also extends an invitation for people to worship at 9 or 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
