Eldred meets

The Eldred Township board of supervisors meet at 7:30 p.m. today at the municipal building in Kunkletown.

Home Association

The West End Home Association, West End Memorial American Legion Post 927, will meet at 7:30 p.m. today.

The Legion itself will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Volunteers

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity will recognize its volunteers who have served the organization at the group’s Volunteer Appreciation Celebration tonight at Memorytown in Mount Pocono.

Working Quilters

The Quilters meeting at the Eldred Township Community Center are back with all kinds of sewing. They are doing repairs to the donated clothes for the Thrift Shop, but all are welcome to come for camaraderie, help and to sew. Machines are ready, tables are available and there are lots of supplies. They meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mission meal

The West End Mission Meal for those in need will be served at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, from 4:40 to 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

OES meets

The Monroe Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Rimrock Masonic Center on Rimrock Drive in Bartonsville.

It will be the Deputy Grand Matron’s official visit.

The next OES activity will be a ham dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28, also at the Rimrock Center.

Garden needs

The Garden of Giving in Saylorsburg (McMichaels) needs guests and volunteers for Saturday for garlic planting, farm tours and Carolyn Jones’ final presentation for the season: Winter Preparation.

The second annual Garden of Giving Paint ’N Sip at the Renegade Winery in Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. Sunday is a way to have fun with friends while raising funds to help neighbors in need.

Old Testament walk

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Effort UMC is hosting an interactive walk through the Old Testament. This program will help relate the Old Testament stories to the stories of the New Testament.

It is being led by Pastor John Keretzman.

There is a cost. That cost covers one’s lunch, book and materials.

Eldred pantry

The West Food End Pantry at the Eldred Community Center in Kunkletown will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Pantry users are asked to bring a photo identification and their own bags in which to carry their received items home.

Benefit pull

The Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment Association is holding a benefit pull on Saturday, at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.

Proceeds will go to the Houston-area volunteer firefighters who have worked tirelessly on search and rescue as well as relocation of survivors to temporary shelters.

Food items will be available on site.

Fun festival

Middlecreek Christian Church, on Dorshimer Road in Kresgeville, will be having its fourth annual Family Fun Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.

It will include games and prizes, hayride, food and drinks, popcorn and a bounce house, as well as crafts and balloons.

The church calls it a free family fun afternoon.

Dinner offered

St. Peter’s UMC, on Route 115 in Saylorsburg, will host a roast beef fundraiser dinner from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Takeouts will be available until 5:30 p.m.

St. Peter’s UMC is handicap accessible, has plenty of parking and is air-conditioned.

Walk for Life

On Saturday, the Pregnancy Resource Center of the Poconos will be holding its annual Walk for Life, a fundraiser for the center and an opportunity to help the organization get a new building. Anyone can participate. Effort UMC has a sign-up in the church narthex or contact the center at 570-424-0373.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The walk is at 9 a.m.

Legion riders

The American Legion Riders have their monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, at the American Legion Post 927, Route 209 and Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert.

Gift card bingo

Eldred Township Historical Society is hosting a gift card bingo Sunday at the Kunkletown Fire Company.

There will be door prizes and drawings. Company doors open at 11:30 a.m. Bingo begins at 1 p.m.

Youth fun

The youth of Salem-St. Paul’s are going on a fun outing to The Old Homestead pumpkin patch. Registration is requested.

Church conference

Effort UMC will hold its church conference at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter’s UMC in Saylorsburg.

Pastor appreciation

Several churches are celebrating Pastor Appreciation Month, including Effort UMC and Pleasant Valley Assembly of God. Notes of appreciation to the pastors are among the activities.

At the latter, a special presentation will be observed on Oct. 22 by the official church board.

Bereavement group

The Bereavement Support Group at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will meet after the 11 a.m. Mass in the Café on Sunday. For more information, contact the church office at 610-681-6137.

Family Table

Country Gospel worship, known as the Family Table, and featuring a band of local musicians, is at noon Sunday. Family Table occurs the second Sunday of each month at noon.

Community meal

Sunday supper will be served at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Whodunit

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is hosting a real whodunit on Sunday at Blue Ridge Winery. It will include many parts of the site.

It is 1932, mobster Kingpin Luigi Bord has been murdered, and everyone is a suspect.

Contact PVEN at 570-992-3136 for costs and to reserve a ticket — only 60 spots are available. Ticket includes a wine tasting, silent auction, finger food and a prize for the best costume.

Costumes are suggested but not required.

Mystery begins at 6:30 p.m.; refreshments are around 7:30 p.m.

Expect adult situation, humor and innuendo.

Progress reports

Pleasant Valley schools will issue progress reports on Monday.

UMW meets

Effort UMC’s United Methodist Women will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. Fran Spicer will be sharing information from her mission trip to Cuba. Janet Pierson and Ruth Flechsig are the hostesses. Devotions will be provided by Michelle Wichman.

All Sports

Pleasant Valley’s All Sports Club is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school library. Pleasant Valley school students have a holiday due to Columbus Day.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran Church’s Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Parish Hall. New members are welcome, including those who do not knit or crochet. Lessons are given by experienced members and supplies are also available for those beginners.

Touch of Home

Operation Touch of Home will hold a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion in Gilbert.

Garden Club

The Monroe County Garden Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 11 at the Eastern Monroe County Library, 1002 N. Ninth St./Route 611, Stroudsburg.

The program will be Lyme disease in Pennsylvania, by Nicole Chinnici, M.S. forensic scientist at East Stroudsburg.

The design theme is Imagine Autumn. Collage decorated with materials such as dried materials, seeds, fresh flowers, leaves, etc. Designer’s choice of size and materials.

The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch, followed by the program.

Everyone interested in gardening is welcome to attend. There is a fee for nonmembers, applied to membership. Luncheon is included.
