CJERP meeting

The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk Regional Comprehensive meeting is on the calendar for 7 p.m. Thursday at Chestnuthill Township municipal center.

Democrats meet

The West End Democrats Club meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the West End firehouse in Brodheadsville.

School board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Administration Center in Brodheadsville.

Eldred recycling

Eldred Township’s Annual Electronics Recycling Program is winding down. The last regular day for electronics recycling will be Friday.

On Saturday, the township is hosting a cleanup day for all residents.

Electronics and other items that need to be disposed of and cannot go in the regular recycling or trash will be collected at the Municipal Building from 9 a.m. to noon.

Chestnuthill Seniors

This Friday the activity for the Chestnuthill Seniors will be Tai-Chi with Dolores at 10:30 a.m.

The morning begins at 9 a.m. with coffee and tea. The lunch hour begins at 11:30 a.m. and the choices are the light lunch and the regular lunch.

The light lunch is veggie & cheese quesadilla, Corn O’Brien, tangerine/yogurt, and juice.

The regular lunch is shells with broccoli in Alfredo, green beans, stewed tomatoes and tangerine.

Next Wednesday’s choices have not yet been posted.

Donate blood

If it’s the time for giving blood, an American Red Cross blood drive will be held at the Blakeslee Community Center from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday. The center is on the corner of Routes 115 and 940.

There will be Miller-Keystone blood drive on Oct. 2 at the Western Pocono Community Library beginning at 7:30 a.m.

PVEN distributions

According to the PVEN calendar, Friday is the next typical clothing distribution, beginning at 9 a.m. The next food pantry Choice Distribution is slated for Tuesday, also beginning at 9 a.m.

Trivia Night

American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert is again hosting Trivia Night this Friday from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.

Spirit Week

The Pleasant Valley School District is celebrating Spirit Week through Friday.

On Friday evening it is the Bucket Game versus Pocono Mountain. It begins at 7 p.m.

Precious junk sale

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is holding a Precious Junk sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Pet blessing

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is having a pet blessing at 10 a.m. Saturday outside by the Jesus Statue. All animals are welcome.

Zion Lutheran will hold its Blessing of the Pets at 1 p.m. Oct. 6, in front of the parish hall. If it rains it will be inside.

All animals and pets are welcome and must be appropriately caged or leashed.

Pantry open

The food pantry at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Deer program

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center and Pocono Avian Research Center is having a whitetail deer program at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Roger Spotts will present. This one-hour indoor program will feature information on the deer’s biology, food habits and more. There is a cost, but center members can participate for free.

Legion pig roast

The Sons of the American Legion are hosting a pig roast Saturday. There is a cost in advance and also at the door, but at a higher charge.

Community Day

Chestnuthill Township is celebrating Community Day from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville.

There will be demonstrations, entertainment, free food, basket raffle extravaganza and lots of information.

Grief recovery

GriefShare, a 14-week grief recovery support group, will open sessions at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, beginning this Sunday afternoon. Class starts at 3 p.m.

Led by a trained counselor, the GriefShare meetings are open to anyone who has lost a spouse, child, friend or family member and is experiencing difficulty in moving toward reconciliation of the loss.

Class size is limited, so call the church at 570-992-7311 and leave a message with your name and phone number, or email fraubeersie1@gmail.com to register.

Weekly attendance is not mandated, but highly recommended. Class will continue through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, with special sessions devoted to coping with the holidays.

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church is located at 924 Route 115 in Saylorsburg, next to Dollar General.

Light the Night

The West End Fire Company shares the information that from Sept. 29 through Oct. 6, residents are asked to Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters by displaying red light bulbs or red lights on one’s home or at business building/property each night to honor the nation’s fallen firefighters.

A Fallen Firefighter Memorial service is set to be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.

The evening event will feature the American Legion Honor Guard, various speakers from state and local government, including state Rep. Jack Rader and state Sen. Mario Scavello. The United States Honor Flag will be there, as will local fire apparatus.

Family Fun Fest

Middlecreek Christian Church on Dorshimer Road in Kresgeville is holding a Family Fun Fest on Oct. 5 from noon to 5 p.m. There will be free games and prizes, food, a bounce house, hayrides and a real firetruck. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Plant sale

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Youth Ministry is having a plant sale after all Masses on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6. It will include fall mums or perennials for planting.

Help needed

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers on weekdays starting now. They will be helping with home repairs for deserving neighbors throughout Monroe County who cannot afford to and do not have the skills do it on their own.

Bird seed sale

Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center has scheduled its truckload wild bird seed sale for Oct. 26.

This year’s sale will once again feature Aspen Song Bird seed blends.

Also available will be black oil sunflower seed, thistle, suet and several other specialty mixes and a wide variety of high quality Droll Yankee and other feeders, some of which are squirrel proof, in the gift shop.

This sale is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26. Ordering deadline is Oct. 17. Obtain a complete order form by calling the center at 570-629-3061, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and most Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or download the order form from the website: www.mcconservation.org.
