West Penn adopts ordinance for impound lot

Published November 08. 2018 12:25PM

West Penn Township plans to have an impound lot located behind its police station possibly by year’s end.

Supervisors unanimously agreed on Monday to adopt an ordinance, along with a fee schedule, for the impound lot.

Board solicitor Paul J. Datte said the ordinance is based on other ordinances that he and township police Chief Brian Johnson reviewed.

The following fee schedule will be applicable to all vehicles or equipment pursuant to the ordinance as follows:

• $25 administrative fee for any vehicle impounded.

• $25 per day for vehicles weighing less than 11,000 pounds.

• $50 per day for vehicles weighing more than 11,000 pounds, but less than 17,000 pounds.

• $75 per day for vehicles weighing more than 17,000 pounds.

All fees or sums required pursuant to the provisions of the resolution are to be paid by check payable to the “Township of West Penn” at the time of application.

Supervisor Tim Houser asked when the impound lot will be functional.

Johnson said he hopes to have the impound lot done by the end of this year, weather permitting.

In August, supervisors agreed to build an impound lot at the township police station.

The impound lot will be 102 feet deep and 96 feet long, with the capacity to hold between 30-40 vehicles.

The township will use about $10,000 from the police department’s budget to build the impound lot.
