West Penn appoints Bradford as new fire chief

West Penn Township has reshuffled duties within its volunteer fire department.

On a unanimous vote, township supervisors Monday morning appointed Jeff Bradford as the new chief of the West Penn Volunteer Fire Company.

Bradford, who had been assistant fire chief, replaces former fire chief Dennis Fritzinger Jr.

The board named Fritzinger as assistant fire chief.

The board’s action came after it tabled a motion to adopt a resolution concerning the establishment of the fire chief and assistant fire chief at its reorganization meeting held earlier this month.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said the fire chief of the township serves as the liaison between the township and the fire department.

Both Bradford and Fritzinger had expressed interest in serving as the township’s fire chief.

Supervisor Tim Houser asked whether the board had received an audit from the fire department.

Prudenti said they have not, adding that they haven’t been getting reports, and that when they have, they’ve come in late. He did not elaborate further.

In 2019 West Penn Township received $29,139.09 from the state in volunteer firefighters relief funds.

A state audit for 2017-18 showed the fire department was in compliance for use of state funds.

Fritzinger was named fire chief in May 2016 after the board accepted the resignation of Clint Schock.
