West Penn Township asks residents not to blow grass onto roads

West Penn Township residents who blow their grass out onto the roads may want to reconsider after their next cut.

Supervisor Ted Bogosh announced at Monday morning’s meeting that there’s been an issue with grass on township roads.

Bogosh said that while it may not seem like a big thing, grass that’s left out on the road can make for a slippery surface.

Further, he said there are laws against it, as it’s considered littering, and that people could be fined up to $300 or more.

“It creates a safety problem,” Bogosh said. “The grass is really thick; blowing it out on the road is not a good idea.”

Bogosh stressed that while fines could be levied, the township tries to give warnings.

“It’s a hazard for people traveling on it,” he said. “It is an illegal function that could be cited by police.”
