West Penn Twp: No need to designate emergency helicopter landing sites

West Penn Township will not designate emergency helicopter landing sites after all.
At least not after township supervisors dismissed the idea last week because the township would have to pay liability insurance and maintain the sites.
Additionally, supervisors said that when pilots have to come in for an accident, they already know the coordinates of where they are going to land.
Last month, Supervisor Ted Bogosh said he believed that having exact heliport landing sites would be beneficial for helicopters during Medevac rescues.
Bogosh said at that time it makes for much faster response time, and added that members of the township’s fire company stated they like the idea.
