The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is hosting a project meeting about the Mansion House Hill at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahoning Township building.

Public plans will be display from 5:30 to 6 p.m., followed by a presentation at the Mahoning Township Supervisors meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is to update the public and local communities on the current design of this transportation improvement project and the results of recent environmental studies.

The project is identified as the Route 209 Mansion House Hill Rock Slide Mitigation Project in Mahoning Township, Carbon County. The project is intended to address potential rock slides along this section of Route 209 using various techniques.

There are multiple locations where rock mitigation will occur, and the nature of the rock at each location will determine the technique needed. Examples of techniques include rock scaling, rock bolts, rock removal and rock netting.

Additional work will include rebuilding cross pipes and repairing or rebuilding the stone retaining wall. It will also include milling and paving any damaged pavement.

Residents will have an opportunity to meet and discuss the project with PennDOT’s design team.
