Witnesses in Mumaw trial
Those who testified in Eric Mumaw’s trial Thursday:
• Eric Skorpil, 31, described Gombert as his “best friend” when he testified. His testimony featured text messages and screen shots he had received from Gombert the night before the shooting. In the exchanges, Gombert and Mumaw call each other names, and Mumaw sends a text message to Gombert stating “what an accomplishment getting the easiest girl ever.”
The night before the shooting, Gombert was spending time with Mumaw’s former girlfriend; Skorpil said they were just friends. He stated that he had advised Gombert to stay away from the residence because Mumaw’s temper “would get the best of him.”
• Schuylkill County 911 Director Scott Krater testified, and a recording of the emergency call was played. In the recording, Mumaw tells the operator that the “dude came to my house and started getting physical” and “I pulled the trigger and I hit him.” He told the operator that he didn’t know if Gombert was alive. Police arrive, and the 911 recording ends.
• Aida Gorman, McAdoo Heights, a neighbor, who testified that she heard two shots on the morning of Nov. 1, 2016.
• Pennsylvania State trooper Andrew Letcavage of Frackville, who kept the crime scene log, recording the dates and times and all law enforcement and emergency personnel who came and went from the crime scene.
