Woman falls asleep when driving on interstate

A woman from Bowling Green, Ohio, fell asleep while driving on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township at 4:50 a.m. June 30, according to state police at the Fern Ridge barracks.

They said Shayna Valdez, 23, was driving a 2016 Kia Rio eastbound when she fell asleep and the car went off the left shoulder of the highway and down an embankment, where it struck a tree.

Police said Valdez was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The car sustained heavy front and rear damaged and was towed from the scene.
