Woman shot, man charged in Schuylkill incident

A woman was shot and a man charged with attempted homicide following an incident Tuesday night at a private club in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Steven Brobst, 62, of Sugarloaf, Luzerne County, has been charged with criminal attempt - homicide, aggravated and simple assault, carrying firearms without a license, possessing instruments of crime and recklessly endangering another person.

Brobst was arraigned before on-call District Judge James Ferrier and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $500,000 straight cash bail.

According to troopers about 7:54 p.m. Brobst entered the Shenandoah Fish and Game Club, located at 395 Ferndale Road in Union Township, and shot a 51-year-old woman who was seated at the bar. Other patrons in the bar wrestled Brobst to the ground and took the gun away from him.

The victim was transported to a landing zone by Shenandoah EMS unit and then flown by Lifeflight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, in Danville. There was no information available concerning her condition.

Troopers did not release any other information concerning the incident, which is still under investigation.
