Work begins on Main Street bridge in Monroe

Published June 12. 2019 12:32PM

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Engineering District 5 announced that work on the Main Street Bridge over Pocono Creek in Stroudsburg Borough, Monroe County began today. The bridge is located between Waverly Drive and Elm Street.

The project includes replacing the bridge deck, milling and paving the bridge roadway approaches, and installing new Americans with Disabilities Act compliant curb ramps.

During construction, a single 10-foot wide lane will remain open in each direction on Main Street. There may be limited times when only one direction at a time will be able to go through with flaggers controlling traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution driving through the area.

Also, starting today, all pedestrian traffic will be restricted to the southern side of the bridge until the project is complete.

Clearwater Construction, Inc. of Mercer is the general contractor on the $863,146 project. The project is anticipated to be complete in November.

The Main Street Bridge is a pre-stressed adjacent box beam bridge that was constructed in 1957. It is 151 feet long and 67 feet wide. This section of Main Street has an average daily traffic volume of 11,785 vehicles.
