Zion seeks singers for Christmas Cantata
Zion United Church of Christ in Lehighton will host its ecumenical Christmas Cantata Dec. 3 in the sanctuary of Zion UCC, located at Second and Iron streets in Lehighton.
It will feature singers from various Carbon County church choirs and groups, as well as members of the community who are not affiliated with any choir.
The cantata, “Christ was Born for This” is a special cantata consisting of a mix of contemporary and traditional songs.
It includes Laura Story’s popular hit, “Blessings,” the powerful “No More Night,” “Shine Jesus, Shine,” as well as traditional Christmas melodies.
The cantata will be accompanied by Zion’s Festival Orchestra, a 20-piece orchestra with members from the Lehighton area and beyond.
Rehearsal dates and times are 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and Oct. 24, 8:30 p.m. Nov. 1, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 and Nov. 14, 3 p.m. Nov. 19 (practice with orchestra), 8:30 p.m. Nov. 22, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, and 3 p.m. Dec. 3 with the performance at 7:30 p.m.
The cantata is under the direction of Zion UCC’s director of music, Bradly R. Cressley.
