Man faces charges in assault of woman, children

A Lansford man faces multiple charges after he assaulted two children and their mother during an argument in Nesquehoning.

Anthony Angelo Lamont Sims, 22, of East Ridge Street, was charged by Nesquehoning police on Sunday with endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

According to an affidavit, filed by officer Timothy Wuttke, police were called to a residence along East Catawissa Street just before 1 p.m. for a domestic incident where a woman was sitting in her vehicle blaring the horn and a man was yelling at her.

Police identified the man who was seated on the wall of the residence’s porch as Sims.

After police arrived, the woman got out of the car and was yelling she wanted Sims off her property. She was instructed to go inside the home.

Sims told police that the pair had been arguing over him disciplining the children and said he smacked one of them because he was not listening.

The woman then told police that Sims was throwing her 2-year-old in the air, and when she told him to stop, Sims got mad and threw the child to the ground, causing him to hit his head and face.

Wuttke observed redness to the child’s face and ear.

The woman also said Sims struck her 3-year-old in the face and pointed out a lump and red mark around the child’s eye.

The woman also said when she went to try to pick up the 2-year-old, Sims pushed her against a wall and grabbed her by the neck and under her arm, causing bruising.

Wuttke reported that he saw numerous holes in the walls and a broken television and mirror.

Sims was taken into custody and refused to speak with police about the incident.

He was arraigned before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton and incarcerated in Carbon County Correctional Facility after bail was set at $50,000.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford has been set for Sept. 18.
