Glen Onoko rescue successful after 3 hours

Published July 24. 2018 02:05PM

A rescue operation has ended as firefighters from Nesquehoning and Lehighton, as well as Nesquehonong ambulance personnel, using all terrain vehicles brought an injured woman to safety after a three-hour ordeal at Glen Onoko Falls in Jim Thorpe.

Rescuers could not access the main trail, reporting it to be a waterfall itself, and much too dangerous for the rescuers to maneuver. Fire companies from Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Nesquehoning and Lehigh-Lausanne worked the rescue operation.

why are people this stupid? How many times do we rescue people there a week? CLOSE IT OFF!
It's this kind of thinking (backwards and uneducated) that ruins the beauty of nature for all others. Closing it off will not change anything. People get hurt doing all kinds of activities, is the answer to ban it all? Close everything? The JT fire dept doesnt like to rescue people....too bad, its their job!!! Maybe we should all live in a little bubble where noone ever gets hurt.
The JT Fire Dept is made up of volunteers, so it is not their "job" to rescue the numerous morons who climb the mountain in tennis shoes, sandals, and flip flops. I believe they should charge those idiots a hefty fee for rescuing their a** off the mountain.
Is it also not their "job" to fight fires either? As a volunteer you are expected to do the tasks that are part of the position you are volunteering for. Fire, rescue, etc., are all part of it. Not just sitting around on their butts waiting for the next parade to happen.

I agree about the morons out there that hike the Glen in flip flops, and maybe an "dumba$$" fee should be charged to anyone thats rescued not wearing proper hiking attire. But unfortunatly, lots of idiots do, and its the "job" of rescuers to aid them.
