Carbon County court – DUI

A Carbon County man entered guilty pleas on Friday to two driving under the influence charges.

He was one of five defendants in pending DUI-related cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Lehighton incidents

Corey Allen Scheckler, 31, of Parryville, was arrested for DUI twice within a 10-day period by Lehighton police. The first arrest occurred on Feb. 17, 2018, along Route 209 and the second on Feb. 27 along Union Street. In both incidents he refused to submit to a blood test.

On the first charge, a first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300. On the second offense he was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300 and a one-year license suspension.

He will begin the jail term at 8 a.m. on Oct. 27 and serve three days; then on Nov. 1 at 8 a.m. and serve two days.

Other pleas

Charles Vincent Mattucci, 50, of Albrightsville, was arrested on April 7, 2018, by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township. A test revealed a 0.16 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so Mattucci can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Wendy Ruth Hawk, 46, of Stroudsburg, was arrested on Aug. 16, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along Bridge Street in Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so Hawk can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Roberto Magobet, 41, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Feb. 2 by Lansford police along Bertsch Street. He pleaded to one count of driving under suspension, DUI related. It was noted he has three prior driving under suspension convictions.

Nanovic sentenced him to serve six to 12 months in prison and pay a fine of $2,500. He was given credit for 31 days served on the sentence. The sentence also runs concurrent with a prison term he is serving on other criminal counts.

Michael George Pavlosky, 42, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Aug. 29, 2014, by state police at Lehighton along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. A test revealed a 0.11 BAC. He was previously placed in the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.

Pavlosky was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $500 and one-year license suspension. He was given credit for 10 days already served and paroled.

He is currently an inmate at the state correctional institution at Mercer, Mercer County, serving a state parole violation.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
