League of Women Voters seeks new members
If you believe that informed voters are important to sustain a healthy community and that a grassroots organization can make a difference, then become a member of the League of Women Voters of Monroe County. Monthly meetings are held to discuss current issues that impact the citizenry and to welcome new members.
The league conducts voter registration drives and sponsors informational and educational activities for schools, government officials and the public.
The league publishes an annual Government Directory that lists all elected officials in Monroe County. The league also conducts programs such as candidate forums and a recent public information session about the Electoral College.
The Monroe County chapter of the league is part of a national, nonpartisan, volunteer organization which functions at all levels of government: local, state and national.
Support is focused on issues only after members have studied the options and arrived at a consensus on government’s role in the solution or service. The LWV works to effect public policy through education and advocacy to encourage the participation of citizens in making informed decisions. Membership is open to all citizens from age 16, including males.
