Man charged with leading police on chase in excess of 100 mph
A Tamaqua man has been charged with leading police on a high-speed chase in excess of 100 mph.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Adam Shimer of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:
While Shimer was traveling in the slow lane on Route 248 West, a blue 2010 Honda passed him at an extreme high rate of speed.
Shimer immediately activated his emergency lights and siren and continued following the Honda at speeds in excess of 100 mph toward Bowmanstown.
The Honda eventually pulled over at the Bowmanstown Borough sign, and Shimer made contact with the driver, Christopher Deans, 34, of the 400 block of Arlington Street.
Deans said it was his “dream to go fast” and admitted to having consumed marijuana before driving.
Deans faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police; recklessly endangering another person; DUI; reckless driving; and duty of driver on approach of emergency vehicles.
He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000, 10-percent bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
