Published December 26. 2019 08:30AM

The driver of a bus that struck a traffic sign and house in Lower Towamensing Township at 2:26 p.m. Dec. 12 was cited by state police at the Lehighton barracks for failure to drive at a safe speed. Police said no children were aboard the bus.

Police said Virgie M. Behler, 72, of Palmerton, was operating the 2018 IC bus on Forest Inn Road and was traveling too fast for a curve in the roadway. Police said the bus left the roadway on the eastern shoulder, struck the traffic sign and then struck the house.

The bus received disabling damages and was towed from the scene.

Behler was not injured.

I for one would not let my child go on her bus. She could have had a medical issue. Been on phone fell asleep.
