The road base isn't built to handle the weight.
Put all that to the side, when I look at this picture, I thank God that no one was killed.
That means zero distance between the white and yellow lines (at minimum).
But my first point is, the road base wasn't installed as they are today.
Compaction requirements, specified aggregates, soil plasticity studies, and so forth.
Bottom line, these trucks are destroying the roads. I get that they pay dearly to do that, but...
Sure there are some bad truck drivers but there are MANY more bad personal vehicle drivers out there; ones that don't yield or stop if needed when on an on ramp to a highway; ones that pull in front of another personal vehicle or tractor trailer without the adequate room (should be able to see the whole front of the vehicle before pulling in front of it) or the ones that do 65 or 70 on a 60 MPH speed limit road.
The road bases weren't made for the amount of vehicles that are on the road today. Obviously the road was made for trucks as, in case you didn't know, it was trucks that carried the asphalt to lay that road.
