A look back: Jan. 27, 1995
SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School, Lehighton, has a lot to celebrate. The school won the Bishop’s Turnaround Award last year for increasing its enrollment by 10 percent and improving curriculum and its image in the community.
And this year, the enrollment has increased by 25 percent.
“It’s too bad we couldn’t win it again,” grinned the Rev. Robert McGonaghy. “But you see, in order to win the turnaround award, you have to have declining enrollment, and last year we already turned around.”
This year is the fifth consecutive year Allentown Diocese schools have increased enrollment, adding 232 new elementary students for a 1.7 percent gain and 116 high school students for a 2.9 percent hike.
