Corrected information
The phone number for the Lehighton Barracks of the State Police, previously sent to this correspondent’s office was incorrect. The correct number for the State Police is 610-681-1850.
Should residents have an emergency-snow, downed trees, etc. — while the Eldred Township office is closed, do call the State Police and they will contact the appropriate township officials.
Community Center
The Eldred Township Community Center and Thrift Store was closed for staff vacation. It was slated to reopen today.
WEPOSC meeting
The West End Park & Open Space Commission is scheduled to meet at 6:30 tonight at the Chestnuthill Park Building in the township municipal complex on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
Men’s Group
The Men’s Group of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is meeting at 6:30 tonight.
Home Association
The West End Home Association of the American Legion in Gilbert is meeting at 7:30 tonight. The meeting was moved to today in light of last Wednesday being New Year’s.

Polk Supervisors
The Polk Township calendar calls for the township supervisors meeting at 8 a.m. the second Thursday of the month. That is Jan. 9.
Community meals
Two community meals will take place at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church this week.
The West End Mission meal will be served from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Sunday Supper will be served from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
PTO meeting
The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO is to meet at 6 p.m. Thursday.
PV Board to meet
The next Pleasant Valley Board of Education is on the calendar for 7 p.m. Thursday in the District office in Brodheadsville.
Little League
The Board of Directors for the West End Little League will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park building on Route 715 for its closed meeting.
The public meeting is set for next week at 7:30 p.m., also at the Chestnuthill Township Park.
Special program
The Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will host a special program on emergency preparedness and home safety on Friday. Rachael Wydra, BSN, RN, will present it at 10:30 a.m.
The special program for next Wednesday is current events.
The light lunch for Friday is scheduled to be a veggie & cheese quesadilla, corn & black bean salad, mango, yogurt and graham crackers.
Next Wednesday it is Italian hoagie, broccoli salad, diced pears and hoagie roll, yogurt.
The regular menu for Friday is cod with caponata, oven brown rice, collard greens, carrots, peaches.
Next Wednesday the regular menu choice is chicken Marsala, snap peas, red beets, tropical fruit and a whole grain dinner roll.
