A crash along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County tied up traffic on the superhighway for several hours on Tuesday.

State police at Frackville said the crash involved two tractor-trailer rigs and occurred at 10:23 a.m. in the northbound lanes in Frailey Township.

Troopers said Gary E. Shaver, 49, of Albemarle, North Carolina, was driving a 2014 Kenworth tractor with trailer near a work zone in which one lane was closed. Victor Ceban, 27, of Orlando, Florida, driving a Freightliner Cascadia tractor with trailer, was stopped for traffic due to the construction, Shaver did not see the stopped traffic ahead of him with the front of his tractor hitting the rear of Ceban’s trailer.

Shaver was trapped in his cab for about an hour until rescue personnel could free him. He was then transported to the Hershey Medical Center for treatment. Ceban was not injured.

The roadway was closed for several hours due to the crash causing a long lineup of vehicles in the northbound lanes.
