Nesquehoning man charged with choking girlfriend

Published December 11. 2018 05:17AM

A Nesquehoning man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly choked his girlfriend during an altercation last month.

According to an affidavit filed by Nesquehoning police officer Derek Marouchoc, around 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 21, he was dispatched to the 100 block of East Catawissa Street for a physical domestic in progress.

Marouchoc could hear arguing coming from the home. A man, identified as Erick T. Whaley, 22, of East Catawissa Street, answered the door.

He told police he had been arguing with his girlfriend about a text message but denied any physical altercation.

Marouchoc spoke with the girlfriend, and could see fresh marks on her chest and neck areas, as well as both ears.

The victim told police that she and Whaley had been arguing over text messages and pornography she had found on his cellphone.

The argument escalated when Whaley began to choke her.

The victim said she finally was able to free herself and went outside but he followed her and continued to argue, which prompted the neighbor calling police.

Whaley was arrested and after being shown photographs of the victim’s marks, said that he was only holding her down.

He faces charges of simple assault, harassment and two counts disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr., and released after posting bond.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford on Jan. 23.

It's about time. Knowing who these 2 are, he's been using her as a punching bag for years now. He's a little punk, and she's twice his age, and they have 2 kids together. He's also the one who drives like a maniac through Nesquehoning, and surrounding areas in a blue ford explorer with a "beast" sticker across his front windshield. About time he finally got arrested (usually she refuses to press charges) and hopefully the judge puts his ass in jail.
Before people decide they want to run their mouth about shit the don't know whole story to they should think about how much grieve and pain they caused themselves. How much pain their drug problems have caused. How much they themselves use people. Their is no excuse for domestic violence on either part in a relationship. And unless you know whole situation keep your mouth out of things. Coming around when you need something or you hear something happened doesn't justify as you give a shit.
Didn't say I gave a shit (though you are correct that domestic violence is inexcusable), just pointing out that he's a piece of one. I know who they are since this happened a block away from me, so don't say that I don't know about them.

As for drugs...you must be on some good ones if you think you know anything about me. I don't do them, don't associate with anyone who does.
