Driver crashes, dies, after fleeing police
A man was killed on Christmas Eve when he fled from a traffic stop and crashed in Towamensing Township.
State police at Lehighton said they tried to initiate a traffic stop at 5:53 p.m. Monday at Route 209 and Anderson Drive in Towamensing Township.
Police said the driver of a Nissan coupe, who was not identified, fled and drove a mile at a high rate of speed when he lost control and ran off the road, hitting trees. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coroner Bob Miller said this morning that the man was not carrying any identification. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday to confirm his identity.
The state police were assisted by Don’s Towing, Palmerton EMS, Lehighton EMS and Trachsville and Franklin fire companies.

Hark! the herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King... Born that man no more may die...
Of coarse this speaks of those who accept and invite this one named Christ (Jesus) into their life. I did, have you? Don't delay folks, it's an eternal decision.
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas, and God's Blessings be on you.
I know, it's not the papers' duty to print cause of death. I know not everyone that dies gets an Obituary written.
Ohh and by the way the direction of the chase would put it exactly right past the PSP Barracks. Even if you have a car that's faster than a police cruiser it's not faster than the radio.
It's sad for everyone. I wouldn't doubt the Trooper and Tyler would recognize each other. We all frequent the gas stations along 209 and recognize each other. Would the Trooper recognize the car - maybe - maybe not. In my mind there has to be more to this story, but it doesn't matter. Just don't run.
Tyler and the guy in the van that was shot and killed were MEN. They made their own decisions. Please stop looking to blame someone else or look for excuses. At least respect them enough to hold them accountable for their actions. I'm glad no-one else was hurt. I don't blame the police for any of it. Would it seem logical a person would run from nothing more than a traffic ticket or some other minor violation - NO. So you give chase. And it's my opinion that's the way it should be.
I have a young driver and we discussed this. When you see the lights pull over. You know what you did - stop making it someone else's problem - TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I don't know what else to tell a young man or woman.
