Sports betting in Pennsylvania hits $16M in first full month

Published January 18. 2019 05:29AM

HARRISBURG (AP) — The first full month of legal sports betting in Pennsylvania saw gamblers wager just over $16 million at three casinos.

Thursday’s report by Pennsylvania state regulators includes December results for sports betting at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course near Hershey, Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh and SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia.

For comparison, New Jersey’s casino and racetrack-based sports books took in $319 million worth of bets in December.

A fourth Pennsylvania casino, Parx Casino in suburban Philadelphia, opened its sports book in January.

A year-old state law allows owners of Pennsylvania’s 12 casinos to pay a $10 million fee to operate sports betting. States are increasingly legalizing sports betting after the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way in May.

Governor Tom Wolf (D) signed the Sports Gambling expansion package, and yes, the Republican General Assembly authored the Bill. I am no fan of this, but digger ole pal, we need to stop pitting everything as you (Demoncrat) against me (Registered Republican). The reason for this is a desperate need for revenue. As a addict does anything for the drug, these elites will do anything for our money. Can we at least agree on that dig?
This is another attack on the family, because people have false hope of monetary success through gambling. They'll just take food off the table of many families. Shame on our entire General Assembly, and shame on the wolf for signing it.
The Republican Majority didn't stop it!
Bottom line. The Republican agenda of subjugating the poor and hopeless. So much for, so called, Conservative Christian values. Own up to your true agenda, perversion, profit and phallic worship.
