2019 Primary election: Greek announces candidacy for district attorney
Attorney Michael S. Greek, 55, of Nesquehoning has announced he will seek his party’s nomination in the May primary election for the office of district attorney. Greek has been an assistant district attorney for 21 years, the last four as the first assistant.
Born and raised in Nesquehoning, Greek is the son of Elaine (Sydorak) Greek and the late Francis “Muckie” Greek. He is married to Michelle (Parano) Greek, daughter of Frank Parano and the late Nancy (Zolota) Parano. They are the proud parents of two children — Gabriella a sophomore at Marian High School and Angelo a seventh-grade student at St. Jerome’s.
He is a graduate of Panther Valley High School and King’s College. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the United States Army. Following completion of basic training, Greek entered Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, and he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He served as a tank platoon leader with the First Calvary Division and achieved the rank of captain before his honorable discharge. After his military service, he attended and graduated from Widener University School of Law.
In addition to being an assistant district attorney, Greek is the sole practitioner at the Law Office of Michael S. Greek. Throughout his legal career he has provided free legal services for nonprofit organizations such as local churches, fire companies and the county animal shelter and participates in the Valor Stand Down Program (a program for homeless veterans).
He is also solicitor for Lansford Borough, Summit Hill Borough, Tamaqua Borough, Nesquehoning Zoning Hearing Board, Penn Forest Township Zoning Hearing Board and Ryan Township Zoning Hearing Board.
Professionally, he enjoys membership in the Carbon County Bar Association, where he was elected by his peers as this year’s Chancellor, Pennsylvania Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, and the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association. Greek is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus (Damien Council 271), and is a proud member of the American Legion Post 123 (Lansford), and Nesquehoning Memorial VFW (Post 8008).
