Family doctors join St. Luke’s network

Two local family physicians have joined St. Luke’s University Health Network.

John Bosi, DO, has joined the network as of June 1. His practice remains at its current location in Nesquehoning and is now named St. Luke’s Anthracite Primary Care.

“I am very excited about this change and the opportunities it brings to all of us to provide you with the highest quality health care close to where you work and live,” Dr. Bosi says. “Joining St. Luke’s ensures we will continue to provide care to patients for many years to come.”

As part of St. Luke’s, patients also have access to many other important and needed services throughout St. Luke’s University Health Network including obstetrics and gynecology, emergency care, heart and vascular services, home health and hospice, neuroscience, cancer care, orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy and weight loss.

A board-certified family doctor, Robert Harkins, MD, has joined St. Luke’s Orwigsburg Primary Care.

He will see children, adults and seniors at the practice located at 209 East Market St. in Orwigsburg.

As part of St. Luke’s, Dr. Harkins’ patients will have access to many important and needed services throughout St. Luke’s University Health Network including obstetrics and gynecology, emergency care, heart and vascular services, home health and hospice, neuroscience, cancer care, orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy and weight loss. Later this year, the new 80-bed, acute-care Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital will open in Orwigsburg.

As a physician, he said, “I practice evidence-based medicine and I believe it is very important for patients to be able to understand why particular medications or treatments are being recommended or prescribed. I always spend time encouraging my patients to ask questions, and to do whatever they can to help themselves.”

Dr. Harkins has been practicing family medicine in Orwigsburg since 1987.

He grew up in Coatesville, and graduated from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Reading Hospital.
