Woman charged with DUI
A Palmerton woman has been charged with DUI after her vehicle struck a guide rail.
According to the affidavit or probable cause filed by officer Adam Shimer of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:
On May 15, Shimer was monitoring traffic on the unit block of Delaware Avenue when a white 2017 Dodge was seen striking the guide rail on the Route 248 exit ramp.
The vehicle continued traveling east on Delaware Avenue without stopping, so Shimer followed it and saw that it failed to maintain lane position and crossed over the center dividing lines.
The vehicle had fresh damage to both its driver and passenger sides.
Shimer conducted a traffic stop. While interacting with the driver, Tara Kralik, 33, Shimer observed her to have slurred speech, bloodshot glassy eyes and an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her.
Kralik consented to a standardized field sobriety test, which suggested impairment. She also consented to a portable breathalyzer test, which tested positive for alcohol.
A blood test indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.23.
Kralik faces charges on two counts of DUI, and other driving citations.
She is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Aug. 14 before District Judge Wiliam Kissner of Palmerton.
