Fairyland Road in Franklin Township was shut down for several hours this morning after an abandoned home collapsed.

Township fire Chief Lynn Diehl said they were called out after 3:30 this morning to the 3900 block of Fairyland Road where remnants of the home were strewn along the roadway.

“It was directly alongside the road,” Diehl said. “When it fell, a good part of it fell onto the roadway.”

Diehl said cones were set up, and the state Department of Transportation was called.

“With the structure project on the Mansion House, that is the detour around,” he said. “They were probably a little rushed to get the road back open.”

Diehl said Fairyland Road was shut down from Jefferson Street to Red Hill Road for several hours.

He said the road reopened to traffic around 7:30.

Diehl said he wasn’t sure who the property owner was, but added that the home was in bad shape for quite some time.

“Just old age and rot,” he said. “It was not taken care of over the years.”

Lets hope this heap of debris isn't sitting there as long as the neglected building was.
This was my grandfather Jean Heine’s childhood home! Can’t believe it stayed up this long!
That's incredible! It's a shame it was neglected for so long, though. Not enough people care about old houses like these. Do you have pictures?
