BUILDING A BRIDGE

  • Empty

Work is progressing on the Reading & Northern Railroad bridge over the Lehigh River near the Nesquehoning Junction in Carbon County. The railroad received a $10 million State Capital budget grant a few years ago for the project. The cost was reported to be in excess of $14 million with the railroad investing the balance. The new bridge will provide Reading & Northern with an efficient and safe north/south route connecting the Philadelphia region to New England and eastern Canada. Reading & Northern will offer the use of this route to both Norfolk Southern and Canadian Pacific railroads; both of whom already use part of the Reading & Northern’s mainline track today. 14 million for a railroad bridge. Jim Thorpe Sewer Bike Bridge... 4.5 million and growing.
I ride bikes, and even I think that sewer bridge is over budget, and, when will it open? They'll need to replace the deck before it gets used.
