Kosciolek faces libertarian challenger for district judge
Magisterial District 56-3-03 includes the boroughs of Lansford, Nesquehoning and Summit Hill, as well as Mahoning Township.
Incumbent Casimir T. Kosciolek is seeking his fourth six-year term, having won previous elections in 1999, 2005 and 2011.
He won both the Republican and Democratic nominations in the primary.
Debby Rabold of Summit Hill is running as a Libertarian.
We asked the candidates the question: How will you improve the magisterial district?

Biography: I graduated from Stroudsburg High School, earned my Practical Nursing License, and worked for home health agencies serving clients with neurological disorders for 20 years.
I moved to the Panther Valley in 2010. For fourteen years I have served as a court-watcher throughout northeastern Pennsylvania, working with investigators and lawyers, visiting lawmakers and inmates, and am an advocate for inmates’ human rights. I have four adult children and five grandchildren.
Answer: Our community’s economic distress fosters criminal behavior, and must be addressed. While we need to protect society from dangerous people, the rate of incarceration in Pennsylvania, costing $2.6 billion, does not provide a solution to our society’s problems. The drug epidemic requires help from medical and educational professionals.
