A Carbon County driver was involved in a fatal crash in which a passenger with her died of injuries and she was cited.

State police at Fogelsville said the head-on crash occurred at 3:16 p.m. Tuesday along Route 100, near Bittners Corner Road, in Lowhill Township, Lehigh County.

Troopers identified the deceased as Derek T. Brobst, 31, of Schwenksville. He was pronounced dead at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, at 11:12 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to troopers Ashley M. Whiteman, 25, of Palmerton, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt southbound and crossed over into the northbound lane while negotiating a right curve. Emily K. Hummel, 37, of New Tripoli, was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler northbound and negotiating a left curve. She attempted to avoid the Cobalt by swerving left towards the southbound lane, at which time Whiteman attempted to swerve right, back into the southbound lane. This resulted in a head-on collision, troopers said. Upon impact the Jeep overturned onto its right side while the Cobalt spun and came to final rest on the right shoulder of the southbound lane.

All the injured were taken to LVH.

Whiteman had serious injuries, troopers said, while a young boy in the vehicle, in a child safety seat, sustained minor injuries. Hummel also sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Cetronia ambulance personnel.

Troopers said Whiteman was cited for the crash.

Come on people, get serious with your responsibilities of driving! Put those darn phones away too.
Pull her call/text/data logs. Not saying she was using her phone, but it is easily proven.
