Inaugural half marathon set for April 29 in Jim Thorpe

The Schuylkill River Runners is hosting the Inaugural Jim Thorpe Half Marathon and 5K in Jim Thorpe on April 29.

The 5K run begins at 7 a.m. and the half marathon steps off at 8 a.m. There will also be a free children’s run for ages 9 and up, starting at 9 a.m. Registration for the event is closed as the event is sold out.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Turn To Us and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley.

Pre-race and bib pickup for those registered will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on April 28 at the Inn at Jim Thorpe, 24 Broadway, Jim Thorpe.

There will also be a pasta party from 4 to 9 p.m. on April 28 at the Broadway Grille, located in the Inn at Jim Thorpe.

The course for the marathon includes the Lehigh Gorge trail.

It starts and ends at the trail entrance to the parking lot attached to the Old Mauch Chunk Train Station.

Participants will run north through Glen Onoko access area of Lehigh Gorge State Park and continue on the trail to the turnaround and then head back. Water and Gatorade will be provided at every mile, starting at the second mile, and gels are provided at the turnaround.

The course is wheel-measured and certified.

Awards will be given in age groups, as well as the top three males and females overall. Full results will be available at www.SchuylkillRiverRunners.com following the race.
