Update: One dead, one flown from Lehigh River incident

Published June 19. 2018 06:20PM

The body of a young man was pulled from the Lehigh River Tuesday evening near the Glen Onoko area of the Lehigh Gorge State Park.

The man was first reported unaccounted for after he made his way through some rapids and lost control. He went under and did not resurface.

Divers of the Lehighton fire department had to remove two young males and a female from the center of the river.

One male companion who tried to save the victim had taken in too much water and the determination was made by Lehighton paramedics to fly him by helicopter to a Lehigh Valley trauma center.

The distress call came in shortly before 6 p.m.

One man came out of the water and took it off. The other was testing his equipment with people aside them.
Always get a feel for the equipment and test before diving. The man in the back was getting someone else you couldn't see in the photo. Be respectful.
Thinning the Herd!
We're overdue for some Yutz to take a header off the falls...
Tired of idiots putting our volunteers at risk.
Thank you to all of our first responders. My thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy.
