Sisters Kerry Palumbo and Coreen Weilminster taught visitors at the CCEEC how to make pysanky, which are eggs that are decorated and dyed using a wax-resist technique. Intricate wax designs are applied to the egg with a tool called a kistka, and then the egg is dyed yellow. More designs are applied, and the egg is dyed the next darkest shade, and so on. Once the it has been dyed the darkest shade (a dark purple or black), the contents of the egg are blown out, and the egg is microwaved to remove the wax, leaving a completed design.
