Palmerton captured the District 11 Class 2A team title Monday, edging Moravian 349-352 at Steel Club in Hellertown. Logan Kresge (83) and Tyler Hager (84) were third and fourth, respectively, for the Bombers, and qualified individually for the PIAA Regional tournament. Weather may have stopped the helicopter, but the annual Shower of Roses went on as planned from the ground. The Rev. Allen Hoffa and Rose Queen Emily Reaman threw roses from the red steps of the Shrine of St. Therese in New Columbus to a smaller than normal crowd.
Tamaqua’s Nate Boyle carried 13 times for 100 yards and four touchdowns in a win against Blue Mountain last Friday. He also kicked seven extra points and caught a pass for 25 yards.
